Spring Thaw at Cambridge, MD
Thursday, April 18 to Sunday April 21, 2013
Spring Thaw is moving! The weekend will be held at the Holiday Inn Express in Cambridge, MD. The Holiday Inn is a fairly new hotel with a large conference center and indoor pool. They are giving us a special $99 rate per day for the weekend.
Potomac Pedalers will host and partner with Eastern Tandem Rally to show off wonderful Eastern Shore cycling. Meet cyclists from up and down the East Coast (and even some from points west). Four days of riding: no hills, sparse traffic, wide shoulders. Perfect for getting back into cycling after a long winter. New routes near the water afford splendid scenery among world class environmental ecosystems. Of course we’re going back to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and having a live band on Saturday.
Although there will be a lot of tandems, single bikes are welcome too - especially people who may be interested in moving up to tandems. Larry and Linda Black from Mt Airy Bicycle/College Park Bicycle will provide mechanical assistance and have tandems, recumbents, and trikes for demonstration. There will be four full days of riding, but many people just come for the weekend.
Lewes Delaware Weekend
April 26-28, 2013
Be sure to get an early jump on spring 2013 by joining Potomac Pedalers for a weekend at the beach in late April. Lewes is a small, picturesque, and historic town near Rehoboth Beach. This weekend is noted for its sociability and ease in meeting new people, so come alone or with a friend or spouse. This year we will limit attendance to 84 people so sign up early!
We will have rides ranging in length from 20 to 65+ miles, all flat (although we reluctantly admit sometimes there are headwinds at the beach.) Many rides visit nearby wildlife refuges, a winery, and beaches. Lorraine McCall is planning more excellent food (last year's food was totally the best) and Catherine Kitchell will be taking reservations, etc.
Williamsburg Weekend
June 7–9, 2013
Join us for a weekend of great cycling in historic Williamsburg, Virginia. Group rides will be organized for Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday, with routes between 16 and 60 miles. As in previous years, a highlight of the weekend will be the opportunity to mix with the Williamsburg Area Bike Club on Saturday, when local members will lead our rides and will put on an outdoor cookout and picnic lunch for our benefit. On Saturday evening, a wine and cheese social followed by a dinner buffet will be held at the Williamsburg Winery (Gabriel Archer Tavern) with an option of joining a winery tour prior to dinner.
Our accommodations will be at the Clarion Hotel in the heart of Williamsburg and within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg. After cycling, walk over and explore the world’s largest living history museum with hundreds of restored, reconstructed and historically furnished buildings and with costumed interpreters telling the stories of the men and women of the 18th century city. The Williamsburg area features some of the most historic areas in the country. We’ll have optional ride routes to Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America, and in and around the Yorktown battlefields, known as the place where Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington. Also nearby is Busch Gardens theme park.
Meet your fellow cyclists and receive information about the weekend schedule at a Friday evening social at the Clarion Hotel. Warm buffet breakfasts, fruit and cereals will be provided on Saturday and Sunday morning at the Clarion Hotel, and snacks will be available to take along on the rides.
