This is a slight variation of the Shadows of the Catoctins ride. When Eric Pilsk led this ride last month I told him it should be renamed to the "Schizophrenia Ride" because it's a ride of multiple personalities. The first part of the route is COMPLETELY different from the second and I enjoyed this ride so much I wanted to do it again. There is terrain to satisfy all types of riders.

The first half is a relatively flat and fast spin up to the first rest stop at the Thurmont Sheetz over quiet and scenic roads along the Catoctin Valley.

The second half is anything but flat. We start off with a long but gentle climb up Sabillasville Rd and bend around the mountain as the climb continues on Foxville-Deerfield Rd. This section also features climbs over Harp Hill the easy way and Harmony Road enroute to the second rest stop near Middletown. What goes up must come down so your climbing efforts are always rewarded with nice, long descents. The home stretch is rolling and the variation from the original route will include a climb over Marlu, although we'll be going the easy way.Other variations on the final route may include Middlepoint Rd or Coxey Brown for those who want to test themselves.

Ride leader will ride at "A" pace. Riders of all abilities are welcome to join as long as you are comfortable and capable of riding by yourself should you lose the group. I do ask that interested riders please register-RSVP on the Potomac Pedalers website so I know you're coming and have a handle on number of cue sheets needed. I'll post a link to a downloadable Garmin GPX of the route the week before the ride.

As usual, please check the Potomac Pedalers website or the google email group for any last minute changes or updates.
