This is another variation of Twice Across the River from POR with no ferry, no mountains--just great riding with an Ice Cream break. A moderately hily ride with 4,315 ft of climbing (59 ft/mi) with two rest stops & an optional stop for Ice Cream at South Mtn. Dairy. We cover some beautiful roads in VA & MD. From POR we go over the Potomac through Waterford (short ride on W&OD trail) to Purcellville, and on to Round Hill for the first rest stop. We then do the gradual downhill.

This is another variation of Twice Across the River from POR with no ferry, no mountains--just great riding with an Ice Cream break. A moderately hilly ride with 4,315 ft of climbing (59 ft/mi) with two rest stops & an optional stop for Ice Cream at South Mtn. Dairy.

We cover some beautiful roads in VA& MD. From POR we go over the Potomac through Waterford (short ride on W&OD trail) to Purcellville, and on to Round Hill for the first rest stop. We then do the gradual downhill on Mountain Rd heading to Lovettsville. Last year we had A, BB, and B riders doing >30 mph along this road, the As pulling and the Bs hanging on.

After the gradual climb into Lovettsville, we then have another long downhill to the Potomac and back into MD (Brunswick). We head north to Burkittsville, then continue on the edge of the Gapland/Reno range on the beautiful Mountain Church Rd. The ice cream lovers can take the left on Bolivar for the 0.5-mile ride to South Mountain Dairy for Ice Cream (or water). Others can just take the right to Marker and continue to Middletown and the other choice for rest stop. We bypass Jefferson and the MarLu climb, head down 180 to the tunnel under 15/340, and a flat ride back to POR.

We avoid all the hard climbs: no Stumptown, no Gapland, no Reno Monument, no Teen Barnes, no MarLu. It should be a relatively easy ride for the Bs & the BBs.

Other classes welcome if you can follow a cue sheet and don’t require a leader. There are many ways to shorten this ride if you tire after the first rest stop.

No go if rain at the start. Check the PPTC forum if the weather is iffy.
