I noticed a 62 mile ride that started in Taneytown and was intrigued by the name. I acquired the route and checked to see if it could easily be stretched to a century (or less) by starting farther south and voila, Utica Park, with portable toilets was the answer.
We’ll head to Taneytown for the first rest stop and then head out on the original ride looping up north of Gettysburg and then coming back down the valley through the apple trees north and west of Gettysburg and on into Emmetsburg.
Eventually, we’ll have to depart the original route to return to Utica Park. There are so many nice back roads through the valley that we may veer off the original route to pad the miles or pick a less traveled route.
The route is fairly flat with several rollers but only 3787 ft. (per ridewithgps) of elevation. I will have a route in the 75 mile range that will cut some of the stretched miles and probably go through Gettysburg cutting off the northern loop.
Anyone is welcome that can do the distance and ride without a leader.
No go in rain.
