RESCHEDULED TO MONDAY, OCT. 10, 9 AM. ORIGINAL DATE WAS OCT. 8.
One of my favorite Northern Virginia roads is Snickersville Turnpike, the 15-mile country byway connecting the metroplexes of Aldie and Bluemont. As the name suggests, we’ll ride all of Snickersville. The ride starts at Northern Fauquier Community Park, about a mile east of Marshall on Hwy 55. The official address is 4155 Monroe Parkway, Marshall, VA 20116. There is plenty of parking and flush toilets, a major advantage to the park and ride lots of Marshall and The Plains.
The gathering spot is the second parking lot on the left after entering the park from Hwy. 55. Parking lot entrance is on Ross Road, a left turn from the main entrance road. The web address for the park is www.fauquiercounty.gov/government/departments-h-z/parks-and-recreation/facilities/parks/northern-fauquier-community-park.
From the park, we’ll go through Marshall then head north to Bluemont via Rokeby and Rectortown Roads for Rest Stop 1 at about mile 25. Then after a U-turn we head east on Snickersville Turnpike to Aldie for the second rest stop at around mile 40. Next, we head south until reaching Hopewell/Waterfall Road and turning west to The Plains (optional coffee stop) and ride a few flat miles back to the start.
Total climbing is about 3,800 feet according to RideWithGPS.

The ride leader will likely be moseying along at a B-pace and reserves the right to cut his route short if the Nationals are in the playoffs that afternoon and he has a ticket.
For historical information, Snickersville Turnpike has its own Wikipedia Page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snicker%27s_Gap_Turnpike
No go in rain or gale force winds. Got questions, call or send e-mail, but call before the morning of the ride.
