Ride is CANCELLED for April 21 and April 22 [Rain Date] It will be rescheduled for a later date to be determined.
This new ride should be ridden on a sunny or at least partially sunny day to fully appreciate it. The ride is 38 miles of rolling roads without cars, gorgeous scenery, and a great winery rest stop that riders can return to after the ride.
The ride starts at the Massanutten WaterPark, off Adventure Drive in Massanutten (just use Massanutten WaterPark as your destination for driving directions in Goggle or Waze etc. Directions are easy.) This will be a full day given our ride start but even the drive is pretty, especially this time of year. Please calculate your own starting time to reach the WaterPark by10:30 AM on the day of the ride (allow 1 hour, 45 mins from route 66 exit 43 B to the start).
Given the nature of this ride there are some special weather requirements: sunny or at least partly sunny (it just has to be seen like I saw it last October to be fully appreciated), temperature at start in the valley minimum of 40 degrees, roads must be dry and precipitation probability below forty-five percent. We ride on roads with panoramic views of the valley and its surrounding mountains. (We do not climb mountains on this ride, but if you make an overnight of the ride, you are close to Skyline Drive.)
Highlights: CrossKeys Vineyard and Estate is a world apart and worth a visit independently of a bicycle ride; we see the vineyards circa mile eighteen and stop in for our featured rest stop. It has a Bistro on-site. And after the ride the vineyard is a short drive should you want to return for a wine tasting or purchase. (Winery and Bistro open 11AM-6:30PM).
Close to the date Please let me know if you are interested in this ride,
as I need to tell the winery how many people will want something at the Bistro. There are many choices for an overnight stay should anyone wish to do that, in Harrisonburg and even at Massanutten which should have low rates after the ski season. Questions or comments: email email@example.com
