Sometimes I lead the Middleburg (More) Non-Express on holidays, but this
time we will do it in the opposite direction. In this direction it is
feasible and interesting to go through Old Tavern, the mysterious other
town listed on the Plains, Old Tavern exit from I-66. The ride will
cover generally nicely rolling roads with a few hills thrown in for good
measure. We will go through The Plains (optional rest stop), and the
longer routes will go to Marshall with the option to extend through Old
Tavern on the way there. After a rest stop in Marshall, we will head to
Middleburg, where there is a great bakery (was open on the holiday last
year) for another rest stop. Then back to the start going over
Hopewell Gap the long, gentle way. Possible post-ride lunch at Joe's in
Gainesville afterwards. Alternatively, can picnic at the La Grange
Winery, www.wineryatlagrange.com, which is a little over five almost
flat miles from the end of the ride. Winery doesn't sell food, but you
can get something in Middleburg
to bring with you. Helmets please. Cue sheets are available on the web
at www.pankin.com. Call leader if weather is questionable.
