New Routes, New Vistas, New Challenges

We are excited to present our new routes for the 2015 Back Roads Century! Beginning and ending in charming Shepherdstown, West Virginia, our routes showcase the varied terrain and scenery of the Shenandoah Valley, highlighted by rolling farmland, stunning views of the Blue Ridge, and the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers. We offer five routes of varying mileage and difficulty so riders of all levels can enjoy the beauty of the area and the charms of Shepherdstown.

All routes end at the historic Bellevue Estate and mansion, with sweeping views of the Potomac River and Maryland hills where you can enjoy a well-deserved meal and entertainment to recover from your ride, before wandering into Shepherdstown for a stroll through town or a visit to the Oktoberfest and the adjacent Bavarian Inn.

Cue sheets are posted at the bottom of this page

BRC Century - 100.1 Miles (4300 feet of elevation change)

The Century route showcases the very best of the northern Shenandoah Valley. Offering stunning views of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, the Blue Ridge and North Mountain, apple orchards, and rolling farm land, the Century is a mini-tour of the Valley. There are no long or sustained climbs on the route, but there are plenty of rollers to make you earn the views and descents. Our preview riders describe this as a hilly route, so train accordingly so you can enjoy the ride! We will have rest stops every 20 miles or so to keep you fueled and fresh.

BRC Metric Century – 65 miles (2802 feet of elevation change)

If you want a bit more of a challenge try the Metric Century route instead of the Half Century. The route adds about 10 miles of beautiful farmland and few more small hills, but lets you say you rode 100 Km in a day! Rest stops will fuel your body and the views will keep you inspired.

BRC Half Century – 55 miles (2462 feet of elevation change)

Half the miles but most of the views, the Half Century allows riders to enjoy most of the views and beautiful countryside as the Century route without so many miles. This is also a hilly route so be prepared to work for those miles. There are no long, sustained climbs, so this is not for the mountain goats, and you are rewarded with sweeping views and fun downhill sections. Take your time, enjoy the scenery and the rest stops, and you will have a great day.

38, 32 and 21 Mile Rides

If you are looking for a shorter, family friendly routes, we offer three choices of 38, 32 and 21 miles that take in the farmland and views around Shepherdstown. Note that there is no rest stop on the 21 mile route, so take plenty of water for the ride.

38 Mile Ride (1,456 feet of elevation change)

32 Mile Ride (1,236 feet of elevation change)

21 Mile Ride (799 feet of elevation change)
