Lewes Weekend (Lewes, Delaware)

Friday, April 29 to Sunday, May 1, 2016

Be sure to get an early jump on spring 2016 by joining Potomac Pedalers for a weekend at the beach from April 29-May 1. Lewes is a small, picturesque, and historic town near Rehoboth Beach. This weekend is noted for its sociability and ease in meeting new people, so come alone or with a friend or spouse. This year we will limit attendance to 85 people, so sign up early – it has sold out the last two years.

We will have rides ranging in length from 20 to 65+ miles, all flat (although we reluctantly admit sometimes there are headwinds at the beach). Many rides visit nearby wildlife refuges, a winery, and beaches.

Your hosts for the weekend will again be Lorraine McCall and Cindy Marish.

Spring Thaw at Cambridge, MD

Thursday, May 5 to Sunday, May 8, 2016

Once again, Potomac Pedalers will host and partner with Eastern Tandem Rally to show off the wonderful Eastern Shore cycling. Spring Thaw is a regional cycling event and attacts many people from the East Coast and Mid-West. Four days of riding: no hills, sparse traffic, wide shoulders. Perfect for getting back into cycling after a long winter.

Routes will lead to the water with spectacular scenery among world-class environmental ecosystems. The Saturday ride will include the Six Pillar Century (entry price will be included in the weekend price), which visits the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. (The Six Pillar Century also has shorter rides than 100 miles for those not up to the full distance.) We expect about one third single bikes and two-third tandems, but uni-cyclists are also welcome to join us.

Saturday, August 13, 2016

New in 2016! Potomac Pedalers and Washington Area Bicycle Association (WABA) are co-sponsoring this friendly ride for women to raise money for their Women and Bicycles (W&B) Program. What better way to do this than to combine a great ride in the country with a wine tasting afterwards? We’ll start and end at Rockland’s Farm Winery and Market, where they offer delicious farm produce, fruits and veggies, pasture-raised meat, and award winning wine for sale. There are two ride options (a longer and a shorter route) that will cater to different riding styles. An optional pizza lunch is available afterwards.

Back Roads Century (Shepherdstown, WV)

Sunday, September 18, 2016

The Back Roads Century is back for it's second year in scenic Shepherdstown, West Virginia! We've tweaked the routes based on rider feedback from 2015 and are offering five routes of varying difficulty and mileage ranging from 26 to 100 miles so cyclists of all levels can enjoy the beauty of riding through the Northern Shenandoah Valley - two new routes have been added for riders looking for shorter rides with less climbing. Montgomery County Farm Tour and Picnic (Poolesville, MD)

Sunday, October 2, 2016

Come celebrate our beautiful local countryside with a ride through Montgomery County's Agricultural Reserve in October! The Ag Reserve is more than just a favorite local cycling destination, it's also home to more than 500 farms and orchards that supply much of our region's fresh produce. Established in 1980 as a response to the rapid disappearance of Montgomery County farms, it's been called the country's most successful farmland preservation program.

There is no better way to experience our local farms than by bicycle! Whether you choose a route of 18, 26, 28, 40, 58 and 74 miles, you’ll enjoy lightly traveled roads and rural landscapes dotted with the local farming community’s red barns, silos and grand open spaces. You’ll have an opportunity to enjoy cider, local honey, and the best gourmet picnic ever at the Kingsbury family’s beautiful orchard. As in past years, volunteers will deliver the apples, cider and homemade jam that you purchase at Kingsbury’s Orchard back to your cars.

The Montgomery County Farm Tour is co-hosted by Potomac Pedalers and Montgomery Countryside Alliance. This year, registration fees will support long-time Pedalers’ partner, Montgomery Countryside Alliance (MCA), the organization devoted to supporting the Reserve’s farming community,

This event is sold out.  There will be no onsite registration.

Williamsburg Weekend

June 7–9, 2013

Join us for a weekend of great cycling in historic Williamsburg, Virginia. Group rides will be organized for Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday, with routes between 16 and 60 miles. As in previous years, a highlight of the weekend will be the opportunity to mix with the Williamsburg Area Bike Club on Saturday, when local members will lead our rides and will put on an outdoor cookout and picnic lunch for our benefit. On Saturday evening, a wine and cheese social followed by a dinner buffet will be held at the Williamsburg Winery (Gabriel Archer Tavern) with an option of joining a winery tour prior to dinner.

Our accommodations will be at the Clarion Hotel in the heart of Williamsburg and within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg. After cycling, walk over and explore the world’s largest living history museum with hundreds of restored, reconstructed and historically furnished buildings and with costumed interpreters telling the stories of the men and women of the 18th century city. The Williamsburg area features some of the most historic areas in the country. We’ll have optional ride routes to Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America, and in and around the Yorktown battlefields, known as the place where Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington. Also nearby is Busch Gardens theme park.

Meet your fellow cyclists and receive information about the weekend schedule at a Friday evening social at the Clarion Hotel. Warm buffet breakfasts, fruit and cereals will be provided on Saturday and Sunday morning at the Clarion Hotel, and snacks will be available to take along on the rides.
