The perfect conditions for touring Antietam National Battlefield, eating ice cream, tasting wine, and listening to live music. A few important updates to share: Update #1: To accommodate our very busy 2019 BRC volunteers, many of whom want to join the Saturday group rides, but cannot get to the ride start by noon, we added an extra starting time of 1pm ET for the 13-mile route. Anyone can ride at 1pm with this final group; this time slot is not just for BRC volunteers. Update #2: Antietam Creek Vineyards will provide a food truck. BYOM (bring your own money)! Update #3: There are restrooms (porta-johns) at both the start/finish and the vineyard. Water is available too.   2019 BRC SATURDAY SUGAR RIDES Make it a weekend to remember! Join us for one of two PPTC group rides (13 miles and 36 miles), featuring the local sites, including the Antietam National Battlefield and Nutter's Ice Cream. Did somebody say ice cream? Absolutely yes, and Nutter's ice cream is amazing. Craving even more sugar? Both rides stop at the Antietam Creek Vineyard (right inside the park). While there enjoy wine tasting and live bluegrass music. The vineyard will also feature a food truck if you wish to purchase something to eat. YOU STILL NEED TO REGISTER These are standard PPTC group rides: meaning all are welcome, and there is no charge. To best enjoy Antietam National Battlefield and the Antietam Creek Vineyard, we must cap registration at 200 riders. Please register here:  https://www.potomacpedalers.org/sign-saturday-rides-sept-21-2019 RIDE START/FINISH Address: 16609 Shepherdstown Pike, Sharpsburg MD 21782 We start and finish at a commercial property on Route 34 (Shepherdstown Pike) located one mile from the Potomac River/C&O Canal Towpath. 2019-09-24 10:00:00 2019-09-24 10:00:00 America/New_York Tuesday Lunch Ride (Olney Ale House) We will start at Veirs Mill Park (VMP) at the North end of Beach Drive and ride a ~12 mile route to the Olney Ale House, including a portion of the Matthew Henson Trail, a portion of the ICC trail, and several residential roads.  This is a relatively easy route with fewer hills (per Google Maps less than 500’ climb to lunch) than our usual Tuesday/Wednesday Lunch Ride.  The return will be a shorter ~10 mile route that includes residential roads and more paved bike trails.  Menu and other info for the Olney Ale House is available at:  http://olneyalehouse.com/. The trails will slow our C pace to an average of about 10 mph for the whole ride (slower when uphill and faster when downhill or flat roads).  See the Ride Class Table (https://www.potomacpedalers.org/ride-class-table) for more info on ride classes and average speeds. This is a social ride where we try to stick together. However, if you would to prefer to ride at your own pace, then please let me know and I will bring a printed cue sheet for you. Please remember to bring helmet, bike lock, and lunch money. Please arrive in time to be ready to roll at our departure time of 10:00.    Feel free to use the “Sign Up For This Ride” button above, but at the start of the ride you will still be required to sign the waiver and provide emergency contact info.   Veirs Mill Park Recreation Center (VMP)

2019-09-26 18:30:00 2019-09-26 18:30:00 America/New_York Tenley Top of the Town Leaving from City Bikes Tenleytown, this social Potomac Pedalers’ ride explores some of the most beautiful neighborhoods in D.C., Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Rock Creek Park. Join us each Thursday evening through September. Come for the ride and then join us afterwards at Angelico’s for pizza (or salad!), beer, and socializing.   Most routes go through neighborhoods with light traffic but all include short connections on roads with heavier traffic. Comfort with road riding is a must. Routes vary each week; check the day’s listing at https://www.meetup.com/PotomacPedalers for the planned ride.   Where: City Bikes Tenleytown, 4810 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016   When: Each Thursday until the end of September.   Time: Plan to arrive no later than 6:15 pm to sign in and hear announcements. The group rolls promptly at 6:30 pm due to limited daylight. So seriously, show up at 6:15 and not 6:35. At 6:35 we are already riding.   Distance: Route of 10 to 20 miles, depending on available daylight. All routes include rolling and sometimes steep hills.    Level: Most participants have done group rides in the past and have road bikes. Ride leaders maintain a pace of 12-16 miles per hour on flat ground and 8-12 miles per hour on hills (C/CC in Potomac Pedalers’ ride class table). For those at that pace, the ride is no-drop. Some riders go ahead of the ride leader at their own individual paces, which sometimes depend on the strength of their desire for beer and pizza. All riders who stay on the cue sheet route will be swept up by the ride leader who will head for Angelico’s for post ride group dinner.    No go if raining or wet roads. If weather is if-y the day of, for an update go to https://www.meetup.com/PotomacPedalers and find that day’s ride page.   Parking is available in the City Bikes parking lot.   The shop offers the use of their rest room and air pump to those participating in the ride.   HELMETS ARE REQUIRED.   Tenley Circle/City Bikes (TEN)

2019-09-28 09:30:00 2019-09-28 09:30:00 America/New_York Georgetown Tailgate Ride Note: This is the same group ride as those starting at 8:00 and 8:30 except this one is for C/CC riders cycling a 27-mile route using a blend of trails and roads. This ride's later start increases the chances that everyone riding in one of the days' group rides arrive back at teh ride start at around the same time and so can then celebrate a post-ride meal together at Mr Smith's Pub, across the street from Georgetown Water Park, and where may of us walk our bikes inside and get lunch. And beer of course. Or just beer. Predictions are for a hot and sunny Saturday, so fill up your water bottles and lather on the sun screen for a really nice ride with us! If you’ve done this ride before, you know we meet on time & we go on time from the foot of Wisconsin Ave. in Georgetown. The 27 mile route starts on Capitol Crescent Trail and will meander in and around Rock Creek Park.  To minimize our carbon footprint, please print your selected cue sheet and/or download a GPX file onto your bike computer. We will not distribute cue sheets at the start. We highly encourage folks to leave their vehicles at home. The Rosslyn Metro Station is around a 1/2 mile away, and the Farragut North station is about a 1-mile trek. For those needing to drive, you can probably find free parking on residential streets above Q Street or otherwise try www.spothero.com for discounts at the local parking lots. If you arrive early and need a little pre-ride caffeine, there are many options in the neighborhood, including the Blue Bottle Cafe around the corner at 1046 Potomac Street. If you have any questions, please get in touch. CC/C: Tim Bouquet [timothy.bouquet@gmail.com] BB/B: Matthew Birnbaum [noshbygosh@icloud.com] [(202) 895-0979]   Georgetown Water Park (GWP)
