2020-02-22 10:00:00 2020-02-22 10:00:00 America/New_York Hills of DC - The Southern-est Hills Saturday (2/22/20). Sunny skies. 40-50 degree temps. Leading a Hills of DC ride. Adding a new sneaky, this doesn't look much like a 140 feet 6% average grade hill! Meet 10:00 AM East Potomac Golf Course located at 972 Ohio Dr SW, Washington, DC 20024. We launch for hill-off promptly at 10:15 AM. This ride is a friendly, fun, let's get that fitness kind of ride. It is a no-drop all class ride, and it is NOT a TRAINING ride or a RACE. The overall pace is hilly moderate 10-12 mph range as we will be riding through the city with stop and go riding. We re-group at the top of each hill, and we support each other on the ride. All are welcome. On this week's ride, I have the ride coming in around the 35 mile mark with around 3,500, feet of let's get it in elevation. The route of the ride will take us to the Southern-est sections of the hills East of the River in #BikeDC. I will not be bringing cue sheets. Please print cue sheets from the ride posting.  FINE PRINT: Now, my goal is to attempt to ride all if not a good majority of the route. And, as always, we can and will modify the route in real-time based upon the needs of the group and the weather. I am keeping the route tight to make it quicker to offset the chilly weather. Now, I will have us up to the church on the hill with that spectacular view of Washington, DC around 12:30p-1p ish mark when the ride ends. After that, you can break off to go your own way home, or just follow me after the ride as I will take us back to the Golf Course. NOTE: There are no official plans for stopping for eats, but will be stopping for a nature break or two. Best to bring your own eats, EXTRA water bottle, make sure your bike can handle some hills, bring a spare tube, bike pump, some CO2 cartridges, rear lights and please wear a helmet. For those traveling to ride by vehicle, please take note parking is free on at the Golf Course. Park in the back big lot and meet at the East Potomac Park Golf Center sign down in front of where the Potomac Grill is located. And for those traveling by Metro, take either the Blue, Green, Orange, Silver or Yellow line and get off at the L'Enfant Station. Exit the Station on 7th St SW and head south for about 4 or 5 blocks to Maine Ave SW. Make a right on Maine Ave SW and go about half a mile and make a left on Ohio Dr SW and travel about a mile and the Golf Course will be on your right. 2020-02-22 10:00:00 2020-02-22 10:00:00 America/New_York Pick Your Miles to Somewhere Fifty Miles to Somewhere is a version of a classic PPTC ride.  There are three versions to chose from, 30, 40 or 50 miles.  All versions have the same rest stop in Lisbon (High's).  The terrain is rolling with a few easy hills to get you warmed up. All three rides start out on Riggs and Zion and return on Rte 108.  So you do not have to decide immediately which group or route you want to take. Come on out and join your friends, or make some new ones. Layton Village Shopping Center (LAV)

2020-02-22 13:00:00 2020-02-22 13:00:00 America/New_York Lansing Beach Excursion Ride start location: Kensington Train Station, 3701 Howard Ave, Kensington, MD 20895 (longitude/latitude = 39.026773, -77.071982) It is called the Lansing Beach Excursion, in honor of the West Point graduate with the Army Corp of Engineers who improved Rock Creek Park by building the first road there which was eventually named after him.  Maj. Gen. Beach is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.  There was a nice John Kelly column about him in the December 30, 2017 Washington Post.  The ride is basically all on Beach Drive except for starting in Kensington and there is a hilly loop in DC. Note: if the high temperature for the day is below 45 degrees, the ride is canceled which I will update no later than 8am.  The start time for the ride will depend upon the weather forecast though most rides will probably start at 1 pm.  In the event of a warmer day, the start time on the Potomac Pedalers website will changed to an earlier start.  Any changes to the start time (or cancelation due to weather) will be made before 8 am the day of the ride. Cuesheets: if you need a paper cuesheet, please print it prior to the ride from the attached PDF for this ride listing.  I plan to only have a few cuesheets for those who forget to bring one or might not have access to a printer.   - Other Start Location MD

2020-02-23 10:00:00 2020-02-23 10:00:00 America/New_York The Winter Ride Series Welcome back to a PPTC tradition, the Winter Ride.  We have been going strong for more than a decade.  The series runs from December through March.  This is a multi-class ride, with a variety of lengths to suit your preference on any given Sunday.  We have multiple ride leaders (see below) and can have up to 50 riders on a good day, so you are very likely to find someone riding your pace and distance. The ride does not go if there is precipitation (snow or rain) or if the roads are very slick due to recent precipitation.  Check this listing on any given Sunday to see if the ride has been canceled on a particular day. The ride starts at the Adventure Playground at South Germantown Recreational Park.  One of the reasons for the ride start location is the heated bathrooms available year 'round.  In addition, we will be riding on low traffic roads in the Montgomery Ag Reserve.   Note: The PPTC site limits the number of ride distance options to 4.  So, the fifth option, the 32 mile route is here:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/6623422 Ask Carol for cue sheets. 2020-02-29 10:00:00 2020-02-29 10:00:00 America/New_York Georgetown Tailgate Ride Predictions are for a nice winter day for a group ride! If you’ve done this ride before, you know we meet on time & we go on time from the foot of Wisconsin Ave. in Georgetown. We ride along many quiet roads blended with some riding along Rock Creek Trail, traversing neighborhoods in DC and Montgomery County.  This is a nice social group ride wtih two rest stops in Glen Echo Park and Rock Creek Park. There is also is another Georgetown group of riders that will be traveling at faster speeds and longer distances (with less socializing) and starting out earlier in the day but with everyone aiming to finish at around the same time.  Afterwards, many of us walk our bikes into Mr. Smith’s Pub on M St. just west of Wisconsin and get lunch. And beer of course. Or just beer. To minimize our carbon footprint, please print your selected cue sheet and/or download a GPX file onto your bike computer. We will not distribute cue sheets at the start. We highly encourage folks to leave their vehicles at home. The Rosslyn Metro Station is around a 1/2 mile away, and the Farragut North station is about a 1-mile trek. If you arrive early and need a little pre-ride caffeine, there are many options in the neighborhood, including the Blue Bottle Cafe around the corner at 1046 Potomac Street. and Bluestone Lane a half-block up from the ride start at 1066 Wisconsin Avenue. Note: The Club's website has a glitch so cannot attach the correct cue sheet.
