Live Music

Let Shepherdstown Surprise You with Music! It is hard to escape live music in Shepherdstown. This little town supports a professional chamber orchestra and its component ensembles. Our Masterworks Chorale is a hundred voices strong. Shepherd University has a highly-regarded school of music that offers everything from opera to jazz to experimental music. Music also fills more relaxed venues throughout the town. Here are some of the places you may well find tunes while you’re in town for the Back Roads Century.

The Shepherdstown Opera House
131 West German St.
Usually a great choice for rock, funk, blues, and more. During the BRC, though, it will be the home of the Cut to the Chase Film Festival, featuring short films from around the world. Come back another weekend and enjoy acts as varied as Freekbass and Dr. John the Night Tripper.

The Mecklenburg Inn
128 E German St
Built in the 1700s and operates now as inns did then, as a tavern, a place of lodging, and a center of entertainment. The Meck takes a very relaxed approach to posting their band schedules, so be sure to check the little sandwich board out in front.

111 E German St
Another restaurant known for its bar and its embrace of live music. Expect to be surprised by the eclectic offerings as Domestic loves to move between sophisticated jazz and downhome bluegrass.

The Devonshire Arms
107 S Princess St
The place to look for undiscovered singer/songwriters and bands. They even have karaoke nights! New artists find fans as the audience enjoys their meals and their good honest English drinks.

The Town Run Brewing Co.
202 E Washington St
A big, rollicking, good-time restaurant/bar that is almost always echoing with live music. They also hold community events, including the Charity Drag Show on Friday the 17th. If you’re in town, come out and help us raise money for WV flood relief!
