About this event
A rolling ride on mostly unpaved roads. Recommend gravel or cyclocross tires for comfort and safety. For Black History Month the ride starts at Banneker Elem School, 35231 Snake Hill Rd, Middleburg, VA 20117. The address is M’burg, but the school is located in the historic African-American village of St. Louis.
https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=5200. The school is named for Benjamin Banneker, scientist, inventor, surveyor, who constructed the first clock made entirely in America in 1753 and was part of the surveying team which laid out Washington, DC, in 1791. https://www.lcps.org/domain/5757. The route also goes through Willisville, another historic African-American community. https://www.fauquier.com/lifestyles/article_0cab7b48-3f18-11ea-a76e-e7fba7a2269f.html. No restrooms at start. The Philomont Store is closed on Sunday so bring food and drink you may need. We'll take a short break somewhere en route. Anticipate average pace of 13 - 13.5 mph. Ride leader: Mike McCarley, 703.218.0707, mccarleym218@gmail.com. Contact me with questions before the ride, or if problems during the ride.
