Magic Moments

by Mary Ann Breunig

There is so much to do!  We’re so busy in our every day lives and time flies by.  Soon it will be a new year 2019...where did this year go???  How was your year?

As in past years, we made a plan for our 2018 cycling events and trips.  Somehow Mother Nature really derailed a lot of our weekend events—the rain was endless.  Who knew that our stretch goal ride, Mammoth Gran Fondo, would be our “magic moment” of the year!

We ventured to the west coast (east of Yosemite) for an early September ride.  The smoke from the western fires had cleared...and more importantly the fires were mainly out or under control.  The folks out there were amazingly friendly, the route challenging, but the sun was shining!

Totally out of character, we took a last minute opportunity, massaged the budget, and joined a group of friends on a cycling/multi-sport tour in Canada (Banff to Jasper).

Can you imagine waking up on the Fourth of July to snow!!  It was wild to hike across a glacier with a brief stop to enjoy a 7 year old Canadian Maple Whiskey over 700 year old ice!

The most magical moment was riding with friends...even when we were rained out!  One of our annual rides, the Leukemia Research Ride in Barnesville Maryland, is a group favorite.  We usually meetup and do the three training rides in the summer.  Then in late September, we enjoy a fall ride at the main event.  Sadly this year—it rained.  Really it POURED!  It was unexpected but we had a great turnout that morning—just to support the cause, enjoy lunch, and take some photos!  Here’s to sunny skies next year!

Would love to hear about your Magic Moments at the Annual Meeting, Sunday, November 18th!
