America/New_York Hills of DC - The Mighty Southern Hills It is looking a lot like a hilly rain-free time this Saturday (2/1/20) with temps in the mid 40's. So, with that, I am 100% down to take us on the up and lead this week's Hills of DC ride which will take us into the Mighty Southeast Hills in East of the River DC. Meet 10:00 East Potomac Golf Course located at 972 Ohio Dr SW, Washington, DC 20024. We launch for hill-off promptly at 10:15 AM. Starting ride at 10:00 AM to give us a little warmer weather for climbing those there hills. This ride is a friendly, fun, let's get that fitness kind of ride. It is a no-drop all class ride, and it is NOT a TRAINING ride or a RACE. The overall pace is hilly moderate 10-12 mph range as we will be riding through the city with stop and go riding. We re-group at the top of each hill, and we support each other on the ride. All are welcome. On this week's ride, I have the ride coming in around the 30-35 mile mark with around 3,600, feet of let's get it in elevation. The route of the ride will take us to the Southern sections of the hills East of the River in #BikeDC with a jaunt out into some hilly cemeteries in #BikeMD. Click on the image below for the Ride with GPS route and to print out a cue sheet of the ride. EXTENSION ROUTE: If we feel up to it, we can do an optional extension route of Saturday's ride and add another 16 miles that will give us an additional 1,500 feet of elevation which could potentially put the ride at the 50 mile mark with 5,000 feet of climbing! This extension will take us to the deep Southern hills East of the River in DC. Extension route Ride with GPS link here: https://cutt.ly/2rTDlJ7 FINE PRINT: Now, my goal is to attempt to ride all if not a good majority of the route. And, as always, we can and will modify the route in real-time based upon the needs of the group and the weather. But on average, we usually average at the very least 3,000 feet of climbing. I will have us up to the church on the hill with that spectacular view of Washington, DC around 1:00pm-ish mark when the ride ends. After that, you can break off to go your own way home, or just follow me after the ride as I will take us back to the Golf Course. NOTE: There are no official plans for stopping for eats, but will be stopping for a nature break or two. Best to bring your own eats, EXTRA water bottle, make sure your bike can handle some hills, bring a spare tube, bike pump, some CO2 cartridges, rear lights and please wear a helmet. For those traveling to ride by vehicle, please take note parking is free on at the Golf Course. Park in the back big lot and meet at the East Potomac Park Golf Center sign down in front of where the Potomac Grill is located. And for those traveling by Metro, take either the Blue, Green, Orange, Silver or Yellow line and get off at the L'Enfant Station. Exit the Station on 7th St SW and head south for about 4 or 5 blocks to Maine Ave SW. Make a right on Maine Ave SW and go about half a mile and make a left on Ohio Dr SW and travel about a mile and the Golf Course will be on your right.
