Ride Schedule

America/New_York CC (MF) * 16 & 20 miles * VA * Lunch in Shirlington PLEASE EMAIL THE RIDE LEADER at adepristo@me.com WHEN YOU SIGN UP. Both MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS are welcome to join us for this ride, followed by lunch or snack if desired. There are many casual restaurants, http://villageatshirlington.com/eating/, including: Capitol City Brewing Company, Busboys & Poets, Cafe Pizzaiolo, Copperwood Tavern, Guapo’s Restaurant. We will decide based on group sentiment and availability of seating. There is free parking in garages and lots of spaces on Saturday morning. WEBSITE SIGN UP is encouraged but you can also just show up and register at the ride start. We meet at 9:45 am for a 10:00 am departure on the brick plaza in front of the Shirlington Library / Signature Theater on Campbell Avenue in Shirlington (in Arlington). For last minute bathroom use, the library opens at 10 am and Harris Teeter is next door and open 24 hours. There are two possible rides, depending upon the wind. RIDE #1: When the wind speed is >10 mph, we will ride the “reverse Arlington Loop.” Start East on Four Mile Run Trail to the Mount Vernon Trail and make a left (towards DC). Continue to the Custis Trail which you take up to the W&OD Trail. Make a left on the W&OD and follow the path back to the start. You will NOT need a cue sheet but you will need to climb 3-4 miles of pretty good hills on the Custis Trail. RIDE #2: When the wind speed is <10 mph, we will ride to the Gaylord Conference center and return. Start East on Four Mile Run Trail to the Mount Vernon Trail and make a right (towards Alexandria/Mt. Vernon). Continue through the Alexandria waterfront to the area underneath the Wilson Bridge. This area has a nice view of the Potomac, provides a good place to rest for those who do not want to climb the bridge, and has a water fountain and clean toilets. The ride continues for another 2 miles with a climb over the Wilson bridge to the Gaylord Conference center and return.   To participate, you must wear a helmet and not use earphones during the ride. It would be wise to bring water, picture identification, a bike lock, money for lunch, and a bicycle in good repair with properly inflated tires. Remember, please email the ride leader at adepristo@me.com when you sign up. The ride leader will cancel the ride if the chance of precipitation is greater than 30%, the temperature is below 50 or there is ice/snow on the trails. If the weather looks doubtful it is particularly important to check the Ride Schedule on the PPTC website for a late cancelation notice. Alternatively, you may email the ride leader on Saturday to see if the ride is a go. Shirlington Library / Signature Theatre (SHR)
