2019-04-26 18:15:00 2019-04-26 18:15:00 America/New_York Scenic Social Germantown Rec Park Friday Night ride This is the Friday night scenic social ride.  The rides run from end of March and go as long as daylight and start times allow (Sep/Oct).  Start times will vary to accommodate the changes in sunset times and to try and start as late as possible but allowing enough time to complete the ride before dusk. Please check the calendar for the latest start times. Ride is about 26 miles and we typically aim to complete in 90 minutes. Ride length is ~26miles with several regrouping points along the way. We usually wait at these points for others to catch up.  The ride does not go if there is precipitation (snow or rain) or if the roads are very slick due to recent precipitation.  Check this listing on any given Friday to see if the ride has been canceled. The ride starts at the Adventure Playground at South Germantown Recreational Park.  One of the reasons for the ride start location is the heated bathrooms available year 'round.  In addition, we will be riding on low traffic roads in the Montgomery Ag Reserve. Some of these roads are rough (Sugarland for example) so please make sure you have a spare tube along just in case.   South Germantown Rec. Park - Adventure Playground (SGRAP)

2019-04-27 08:30:00 2019-04-27 08:30:00 America/New_York Georgetown Tailgate Ride - We Love Dave This awesome multi-class ride caters to every type of recreational bicyclist on the last Saturday of each month. All rides typically enjoy Beach Drive in Rock Creek Park, with routes varying based on distance and speed of the group. The CC through A routes favor quiet roads in DC, Maryland and/or Virginia and generally return to Georgetown on Beach Drive with one to two rest stops along the way; the C/CC group tends to rie on routes that mix great trails with quiet residential streets, including, of course, Rock Creek Park. Note: the various group rides generally start at different times so we are all more likely to end together. See below for starting times for the groups. To minimize our collective footprint, please print your selected cue sheet and/or download its GPX file onto your bike computer. For this month's April ride, we will be fondly remember our buddy, Dave Solovesh, who was killed last week by a reckless driver. Dave was awesome to ride with. He cycled smartly and effectively. He knew how to socialize as he nurtured a low ego, high degree of empathy, active curiosity and a dry sense of humor. He never was completely off the bike, as he tirelessly advocated for safer neighborhoods in our city so we all can reap the benefits of active, healthy lifestyles. B/BB/A (8:30 Ride Start): Matt Birnbaum, Bill Schulz and Matt Ossolinski (55 miles) CC/B (9:30 Ride Start): Monique Sears (40 miles C/CC (10:30 Ride Start): Tim Bouquet (27 miles) At ride's end, all are welcome and encouraged to stay around for a post-ride lunch at Mr. Smith’s pub across the street from the park, and where we can bring our bicycles inside! And for those looking for pre-ride caffeine, there are a suite of options in the neighborhood, including the Blue Bottle Cafe around the corner at 1046 Potomac Street. We highly encourage folks to leave their vehicles at home. The Rosslyn Metro Station is around a 1/2 mile away, and the Farragut North station is about a 1-mile trek. For those needing to drive, you can probably find free parking on residential streets above Q Street or otherwise try www.spothero.com for discounts at the local parking lots. 2019-04-27 09:00:00 2019-04-27 09:00:00 America/New_York Rockville Wootton Ride In its 7th year, the Wootton ride is a regular fun group Saturday morning event, suitable for seasoned A/BB/B/CC riders. We will be mostly riding from Rockville to Germantown/Poolesville/Clarksburg with frequent variations to keep it interesting. Our typical ride length will range from 40 to 60 miles and will be moderately hilly (MH). Actual ride length and route for each week will be posted in advance. We make 1-3 rest stops depending on the length of the ride. The group generally divides into two 3 groups – (A/high BB – average 17-20 mph), (BB/B – average 16-17.5 mph), and (B/CC – average 13.5-15 mph). Our attempt will be to not drop anybody as long as you can ride with the respective groups average speed for the length of the ride. We are highly safety conscious, so you are expected to follow safe riding practices. Please consult the club website (www.potomacpedalers.org) or the ride Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/rockvillewoottonride/) to confirm the start time and download the cue sheet. The ride will leave promptly at the designated time. Please sign up online by clicking the green button at the top left at the club website. Come join us and enjoy the ride. Please bring your own cue sheet. Thomas S. Wootton High School (TWHS)

2019-04-28 09:00:00 2019-04-28 09:00:00 America/New_York Rescheduled to Sunday - Loudoun Looper In consideration of wind gusts predicted to around 30 mph on Saturday, I rescheduled the ride to Sunday. Yes, I'm a wind adverse. Welcome to some the smoothest rural pavement this side of the Blue Ridge. The long route, 61 miles, is the traditional loop to Waterford, Taylortown, Lovettsville (No Lyle), Hillsboro, Round Hill, Airmont, Purceville and back to Leesburg. The short route, 47 miles, stays with the long route until mile 32, where it turns east onto the newly paved Alder School Road and on to to Purceville. First rest stop is at mile 18, the Lovettsville 7-11 (indoor toilets!). Short route riders have the do-it-your-self rest stop #2 option in Purceville of visiting any of the town's stores, restaurants or four breweries. Long route rest stop #2 is at the Airmont store (if open), mile 38, or the Philomont store (mile 41). Ride leader expects to lead from the back and do the long route (hernia scar willing). No rest room at the ride start, so plan accordingly. I'll have analog cue sheets available at the start. Got question? Email or call, just don't wait until Saturday morning.     Loudoun County High School (LOU)

The front runners keep a zesty pace but the ride leader always sweeps, so all are welcome. The ride leaves from the bike racks at the Marriott HQ on Fernwood. Parking at HQ can be tricky so if you're driving, best to park at one of the many shopping center lots and ride over.   Please let me know if you'd like to be added to the email list for this ride. I send out the route every Wednesday.  - Other Start Location MD

2019-05-02 18:00:00 2019-05-02 18:00:00 America/New_York Thursday Night Trainer This is generally a fast paced cooperative training ride through the Laytonsville area and Patuxent River valley. Same route as in previous years. The ride leader will make no attempt to keep the group together for the ride, so make sure you have a cue sheet and know where you are going. Ride leader will insist on single file riding until the top of Howard Chapel Rd. because of the traffic and narrow roads. No go in rain or on wet roads. Please park in the far corner of the parking lot near the donation bins. Layton Village Shopping Center (LAV)
