2019-10-19 08:30:00 2019-10-19 08:30:00 America/New_York Tour of Fort Valley and Shenandoah Valley aka Edinburg Gap & Beyond Use your long-distance legs for one more ride before it gets too cold. This is one of the most varied and wonderful routes in Northern Virginia. From Front Royal we head west to Fort Valley, the valley within the Shenandoah Valley, where the north end isn't much wider than a two-lane road. The valley opens up as we reach the first rest stop at mile 20, the Fort Valley Store. We continue south until turning west for the 2-mile climb up Edinburg Gap (mile 30) and the longer descent into Edinburg. It's then west to Columbia Furnace, for rest stop 2 at mile 41. Now its north on the rolling hills of Back Road and after a few turns, rest stop 3 at mile 67 in Middletown. The final dozen miles or so are mostly down hill or flat back into Front Royal. I'll be leading from behind at a B pace. Ride start has restrooms. If 79 miles is too long for you, you're free to ride out-and-back into Fort Valley. Should rain be a threat I'll look to move the ride to Sunday. If you have questions, call or email, but don't wait until the morning of the ride.     Eastham Park (EAS)

2019-10-20 09:30:00 2019-10-20 09:30:00 America/New_York Mason Neck Half Reverse This ride begins near the Gunston Road bike path, continuing through surrounding neighborhoods and Mason Neck State Park.  The route is 98% flat with several not too long hills out and back.  There is an option to ride an additional 5 miles at the start before the bike path.  It's an out and back from Gunston Road featuring an eastern view of Belmont Bay.  On this option there's a short, steep hill just before the turn around that can be avoided by waiting at the top.   A ride to Gunston Hall makes for 27.  Meet at second entrance to the school parking lot.  Lunch afterwards at a local eatery.
