Proud to Wear the Club Jersey!

For the  second time I wore a Club jersey to a large cycling event and was recognized. During my most recent excursion cycling the Katy Trail across Missouri (with club members Deborah Turton, Les Cannon, and Whitney Weber), we were asked by a single rider if he could ride with us. Of course we agreed - our number one goal of the Women's Program is to train, mentor, and develop all riders!
During our five days of riding we taught John how to pace line, that you don't have to bring a extra pair  of shoes if your clips are recessed, and the joys of "buttering" before each ride. The benefits of group riding helped us all during the first two days which were the longest and hottest. I think our "mentee" learned a lot from us and certainly became a better and stronger rider. It certainly confirmed the Club's motto: Why ride alone?

Some fun things are happening on the Women's side of the club in June:

  • Jessica Hirschhorn is leading a Tuesday 9:30 AM ride every other Tuesday out of District Hardware to Lake Artemisa on the Anacostia River Trail.
  • Brenda Ruby is leading a Wednesday 6:30 PM ride every Wednesday through the end of September from the Rockville Trek store.
  • Robin Sparer is leading a Tuesday 6:30 PM ride every Tuesday through the end of September from the Georgia Ave. ICC Parking Lot.

Don't forget our Women Friendly (WF) regional rides/events coming. The PPTC Women's group will have riders at these events to mentor and meet those who are interested.

Our Club is nothing without volunteers! If YOU want to lead a WF or WO ride, or help out in any way, please get in touch with me! We are a club of thousands of members and it's likely a handful (or more) will want to do the ride you want to do - we just need to find each other. With so many members it can feel overwhelming - where do you start? Just reach out and get the ball (or wheel in this case!) rolling. You'll be glad you did and we'll be a better club for it.
